Hazard level zones (click on link in right column for larger map.)
In Montserrat it is important to know which zone you are currently in. Do you know which zone you live or work in? It is important that you identify your zone so that you can respond to emergency messages during any increases in volcanic activity. Examine the hazard map to determine which is your zone.
Currently there are people living in Zones A and B but, in addition, people can be temporarily working in Zones F and T. There is currently no one living or working in Zones C and V.
The Maritime Exclusion Zones can be very dangerous as they are subject to flows reaching the sea from the volcanic dome. Fishermen, yachts and other maritime vessels should stay clear of these zones.
A. South of Nantes River, including, Salem, Hope, Frith, Flemmings, parts of Olveston & Old Towne, and the upper part of Happy Hill.
B. Iles Bay, Belham, Waterworks, parts of Old Towne and the lower parts of Happy Hill.
C. Corkhill, Weekes, St Georges Hill, Foxes Bay, Richmond Hill and Delvins.
F. Corbett Springs, Locust Valley. This zone is dedicated to farming and is defined
V. Soufriere Hills, South Soufriere Hills, Plymouth, Lee's, Harris' and Spanish
Pointe.
T. Trants. Limits marked by red flags, southern limit is Farms River. This zone is dedicated to sand and gravel extraction and is defined by NDPRAC. Access to this zone requires the use of special procedures for monitoring activity and rapid response.
At the current alert level (Level 3) there is unrestricted access to Zones A and B, controlled access to Zones C and T, daytime access to Zone F and no access to Zone V.
W. 2 km offshore between Sturge Park and O'Garro's.
D. 4 km offshore between Roaches Yard and Spanish Pointe, decreasing to 2 km off-shore from Spanish Pointe to Pelican Ghaut.
